Recent Projects Undertaken by Bell Pumps
Kallista Pump Station
Bell Pumps successfully supplied, delivered, installed, tested and commissioned the pumps, controls valves, pipework and associated works for this project. We were chosen over other major manufacturers for pump supply and due to the services offered by Bell Pumps, we were chosen to install all mechanical plant associated with the pumps.
The completion date for this project was critical and with the co-operation of the other contractors on site, water was pumped within the specified time.
The major items of equipment supplied were JET multistage centrifugal pumps, which were imported specially for the task, because this style of pump is not manufactured in Australia. The motor power for each pump was 300 kW.
Pipework was steel and varied in size from 250 to 450 mm. A special coating was applied in accordance with specification.
Lorne and Apollo Bay Pump Stations
Bell Pumps carried out retrofitting at Apollo Bay in five pump stations and a complete new pump station. In Lorne, we installed two new pump stations with a total output of 720 kW.
Lorne
Stoney Creek pump station contains two pumps that are each rated at 90 kW. We installed pumps, pipework, valves, control cabinet, level controls, odour control and telemetry equipment.
Duncan Street pump station contains six pumps that are each rated at 90 kW. As with Stoney Creek, we installed similar equipment except that we also supplied and installed additional ventilation equipment and carbon filters for eliminating odour.
Apollo Bay
Five pump stations were refurbished which involved upgrading the pumps, pipework, valves, control cabinets and level controls. We also carried out supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of a complete new sewage pump station involving the mechanical and electrical fitout.
Tra Vinh Pump Station, Vietnam
The scope of works for this project included supply of: water supply pumps, chlorination pumps, actuated valves, flowmeters, eccentric plug valves, pressure relief valve, gas chlorination plant, digital weighing scales for two cylinders and contract drawings.
The project was part of a World Bank Infrastructure Supply Scheme that was tendered internationally through consulting engineers in countries such as Canada, United States of America, Japan and others.
Bell Pumps were successful and after supply of the products, the project also called for commissioning of the equipment and operator training on site in Vietnam.
Summary
Bell Pumps have contracted its services over 30 years and carried out literally hundreds of pump installations involving associated equipment as detailed, but not limited to those indicated above.
Maintenance
Bell Pumps are currently carrying out maintenance of various types of mechanical and electrical installations for Melbourne Water, South East Water, Yarra Valley Water, City West Water, Western Water and other water authorities.
Sales
Bell Pumps have established a successful sales team responsible for direct selling to industrial and rural clients. Since the acquisition of the Ajax gear and piston pump ranges from KSB Ajax Pumps, we have established an Australia wide dealer network.
We stock over one hundred pumps in the Melbourne branch and a similar number of mechanical seals.
Bell Pumps are the sole Australian distributor of the JUROP rotary lobe pump, which is a positive displacement pump designed to handle waste liquids including solids up to 30mm. We currently have pump sizes from 50mm to 200mm in our stock including comprehensive spare parts.

Bell Pumps have approximately 20 pumps in our range, comprising submersible, centrifugal and JUROP positive displacement.
Pipework, fittings, controls and various types of drives are available on request to suit your requirements.
Mechanical Seals
Bell Pumps are the exclusive Australian Representatives for Flex-A-Seal mechanical seals. Flex-A-Seal are an American manufacturer of various types of seals including the following:
Mechanical Seal Lapping Facility
We have a Kemet 24" open face precision diamond flat lapping and polishing machine which we have acquired to assist with our maintenance works. We have lapped mechanical seals, hydraulic components, valve distribution plates for aircraft and various components.
We also manufacture mechanical seal components to allow use of the original mechanical seal ands avoiding the need to replace expensive seals.
Once the machine is loaded and set in motion, the process is automatic and electrically timed. The high quality finishing process gives consistent results in the most economical time. Lapping can be performed on soft non-metallic items such as carbon and plastics to very hard materials including carbides and ceramics.
Contract Lapping Service
Bell Pumps now operate a contract lapping service to manufacturers whose production does not warrant the purchase of a machine. Details of your requirements, with, if possible, a sketch will bring a quotation. If you prefer to send samples, we will gladly lap these for your approval.
Hand Lapping
Bell Pumps can also lap using our 300mm hand lapping plate, which can achieve optical standards and would typically be used when the item to be lapped already has a reasonably flat face.
Manufacturing
Bell Pumps manufacture pumps. Since the acquisition of the 'AJAX' gear and piston pump ranges, we have been manufacturing components for use in pumps that have been sold in the Australasian region.
Components are produced from castings from our foundry or machined from raw materials such as manganese bronze, cast iron, phosphor bronze and various grades of stainless steel.
We are sole manufacturers of special pipes and fittings, as well as cast iron and bronze pump fittings.
