Our history in the foundry
industry dates back to 1930 when Alan Beckwith became a moulder. In
1960 he formed his own business to supply cores and moulds to the
foundry industry. From small beginnings the company has now grown
into a large diverse company supplying and manufacturing foundry
products. In l992 Alan Beckwith and Co purchased A R D McMillan, designers and manufacturers of the range of MACBRO sand mills, shell moulding machines and shell core equipment. In 1995 the business further expanded by acquiring a modern foundry and pattern shop. The pattern shop was equipped to produce patterns, core boxes and other tooling to meet not only the foundry requirements but also to take on other outside work in the foundry, toolmaking and vacuum forming industries. The foundry is fully equipped with modern moulding plant, electric melting and processing equipment, capable of producing castings from a few grams to 1200 Kg. 1996 further expansion occurred with the acquisition of a resin coated sands facility, selling to foundries throughout Australia and for export into Asia and New Zealand, and again in 1998 with the installation of a Thermal Reclamation Plant, to service both in-house requirements and the foundry industry. As a result Alan Beckwith Macbro prides itself in the diverse range of products and services it has to offer. * Castings - Grey and Ductile Iron * Castings - Non-Ferrous * Cores - Shell and chemical Sand * Patterns - Wood, aluminium and plastic |
* Hot coated resin sands * Moulds - Green sand, shell and chemical moulds * Macbro shell core and shell moulding equipment * Laboratory testing - Metal and resin sand * Thermal Sand Reclamation Plant The company is accredited to AS/NZS ISO 9002: 1994. Licence No 8377. We are also on line with EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) through Telstra Tradelink. We have our own materials testing laboratory on site with facilities to do microscopic examinations, hardness testing and spectrometer chemical analysis. We are able to have tensile testing done if required. Alan Beckwith Macbro is staffed by experts whose qualifications and industrial experience are at your service. Please feel free to contact us to see how we can help you improve your casting or tooling costs and quality. |
The foundry division of Alan Beckwith Macbro manufactures a
wide range of casting for a variety of customers from the automotive
industry to general engineering castings. |
Final
metal chemistry can be checked using our in- plant Optical Emission
Spectrometer, as well as metallographic and hardness testing of the
final product to ensure it meets the required specifications. If
required outside testing for tensile and yield strengths can be
arranged using NATA accredited testing facility. The well planned layout of the foundry enables a smooth flow of castings, from moulding to dispatch which gives us the flexibility to meet your delivery requirements. Alan Beckwith Macbro's foundry is accredited to AS/NZS ISO 9002: I 994. Licence No 8377, and is staffed by experts whose qualifications and indus- trial experience are at your service. Alan
Beckwith Macbro produces all grades of RESIN COATED SANDS for SHELL CORE
and SHELL MOULDING. We manufacture using SOLID RESIN and HOT COATING technology
which results in a product that has significant advantages over liquid
and other solid resin processes in the areas of OH&S, COST ENVIRONMENTAL
and QUALITY.
APPLICATIONS HOT COATED RESIN SANDS can be used for all types of core and shell moulds. GRADES * A range of resin strengths can be manufactured, from 1.5% to 5.0%. * Silica, Zircon and Chromite Sands can all be coated, or blends of the different sands can be produced, such as 50% zircon 50% silica. * Sands of different AFS can be coated, typically 50 to 90 AFS are used. * Other additives can be added to improve operator comfort. BENEFITS * Quicker build up and faster curing times give quicker cycle times and improvements in productivity. * Less resin is required to attain the same strengths, which results in less fuming and emissions during manufacturing and casting. * Lower overall cost. |
HEALTH, SAFETY and the ENVIRONMENT *Testing of HOT COATED SOLID RESIN sands has returned test results in which minimal levels of PHENOL, METHANOL and FORMALDEHYDE were detected. .* Lower resin additions results in lower fume emissions, both at the manufacture and casting stages. This results in a cleaner working environment for your employees OTHER SERVICES * Warehouses in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane to ensure that the product is available when required. * Full technical and trouble shooting service. * On-site shell core and shell moulding facility so that the product can be continually tested, trialled and improved. * Laboratory facilities that test continually to ensure that the sand produced meets quality specifications. * Accredited to AS/NZS ISO 9002: I 994. Licence No. 8377. |
| As part of our total service to the industry Alan Beckwith
Macbro has its own in-house core, chemical sand and shell mould
production facilities. This allows us to not only make cores and
moulds for use in our own foundry but to also manufacture cores and
moulds for outside customers. We are able to make and supply moulds for all types of metals, ferrous and non-ferrous metals using your pattern equipment or we can manufacture equipment for you. For non-ferrous and steel castings we can arrange to have these cast, fettled and cleaned ready for you to use. For the manufacture of cores we are able to employ the latest technologies in cold box resins, either catalysts activated or gas setting processes. We have available a Warill CB-20 Autocore which can take core boxes up to 550mm x 450mm in size, and blow cores up to 30kg in a single blow or larger weights using multiple blows. |
The Auto core can also be used to manufacture stack moulds to
your specifications again up to 550mm x 45mm in area and to the
required number of biscuits. With the catalyst activated systems we can manufacture up to any size mould required and any quantity required. It may be that you want us to cast your moulds or if not we can deliver to you your chemical moulds. For those high precision, dimensionally accurate castings or superior finish cores and moulds then our shell core section can supply. We have a number of shell core and shell mould machines available with the capability of taking shell boxes up to 610mm x 610mm or shell moulds up to 810mm x 510mm. Alan Beckwith Macbro's foundry is accredited to AS/NZS ISO 9002: I 994. Licence No 8377, and is staffed by experts whose qualifications and industrial experience are at your service. The knowledge and experience of our pattern makers has been gained
from years of experience in a vast variety of industries. Together
they form a pattern shop team that can handle any task in the way of
patterns and die equipment.
For the vacuum and blister packaging industry we can make up
prototype tooling so that new tooling can be viewed prior to die
making. This also benefits the cosmetic and display industry where
mock-ups and prototypes are easily made to prevent costly
mistakes. Working in a highly competitive sector has taught us to adapt to different requirements and to come up with creative tooling techniques and ideas. We are sure whatever query you may have we will be able to help you in all facets of pattern making, even if it is only information that you require. Our friendly well trained and experienced staff will be more than willing to help you. Alan Beckwith Macbro's foundry is accredited to AS/NZS ISO 9002: 1994. Licence No 8377, and is staffed by experts whose qualifications and industrial experience are at your service.
